A FAMILY STORY
Chateau Ducluzeau has been in my mother family since 1740. I took over the estate from my mother in 2003. Prior to me, the estate was managed by women of the family for three generations. I call Chateau Ducluzeau a feminist’s wine: reliable, vigorous and welcoming.
Records show that Chateau Ducluzeau dates back to at least the 1700s when it was owned by a Monsieur du Cluzeau. He sold it to Mademoiselle Hugon, also a Listrac winegrower, who married Monsieur Astien, another winegrower, but this time from Moulis.
On her death, she left the property to their daughter, Marie Louise, who had married Andre Rochette. When Marie Louise died in 1976, she left it to her daughter, Monique Rochette, who was born and lived there until she married my father Jean-Eugène Borie. Chateau Ducluzeau has been in our family since 1740.

WINES
Ducluzeau’s wines have a beautiful purple colour, with ruby lights, and a charming, elegant bouquet. On the palate, they express suppleness and distinction.

Ducluzeau’s wines are matured for 12 months, 20% in new oak barrels and 80% in one-year-old barrels. Our barrels are certified French oak, cured in open-air drying parks for a minimum of three years.
Château Ducluzeau is distributed on an exclusive basis by Crus & Domaines de France.

THE DOMAIN
LISTRAC
Listrac is one of the six commune appellations of the Médoc located near Bordeaux. Sitting on a gentle rise, at 45 meters (150 feet) above sea level, Listrac is on the limit of the Landes County border. The word Listrac literally means edge, from the French lisière. It overlooks the Medoc peninsula and is only 25 kilometres from the Atlantic. When the wind blows from the west you can smell the ocean, adding a potential touch of iodine to the wine’s flavours.
DUCLUZEAU
Unusually for the area, and because of its soils and climate, Chateau Ducluzeau has always been merlot dominated. The 13 hectares (32 acres) of vineyards are divided into several plots, with noticeable differences between them in terms of terrain and soil type. Most of the plots are on the main Listrac plateau. These have light gravel and clay soils on the top layer and a gravel and clay limestone mix underneath. The average age of the vines is 35 years and the rootstocks are Riparia Gloire and 101-14, both of which are double-Guyot pruned. The climate is dictated in large part by the nearby Atlantic Ocean that moderate temperatures and provides moisture even in the hottest summer. The grape clusters and leaves are thinned, as necessary, in July to enhance ripening and concentration. The wines are a blend of Merlot (95%) and Petit Verdot (5%)
